DT Cleaning have been established window and commercial cleaning business since 1984. It started off life over 26 years ago when I decided that I wanted to run my own business. I had left school, and worked for two employers up to that time, which was fine, but I really wanted to have a greater challenge and actually run my own business, rather than being employed by one.
When I first started this business I literally had nothing. In those days, you could leave one job and find another, but we know today that is not the case now. I had absolutely nothing to start with in the way of work, so I spent many days, weeks, months and the first couple of years door to door canvassing and working as I went. As with any new business it can take time to build it up, but if you have determination and drive, anything is possible.
During the years that passed I built up the work, and with it the experience in the trade. Anyone can think they can clean windows or clean properties, but as with every skill, it does take time to fine tune the art to a point where you can do it properly and be able to charge for it. During that time we undertook private and commercial contracts, from surgeries to schools, from new builds to offices. Once when younger, we even ended up working through the night as well as the day when undertaking some work for a building company that needed the houses ready for the new residents the next day - yes those were the days when I perhaps did not mind so much!
Why do you need Public Liability Insurance?
Public Liability is not a legal requirement but it is good business practice. Local authorities will generally demand a minimum level of £2m for works to be undertaken at their premises or on their behalf. Although not compulsory public liability insurance is generally required because it provides your business with cover against legal claims, and as a customer, it gives you the added safeguard of knowing that should the worse happen, then you can at least hopefully have some protection.
Often we find, or know of, "window cleaners", who have not taken out this type of insurance, and if they are employing others as well, they are definitely breaking the law, if they do not have Employers Liability Insurance.
If your window cleaner and/or cleaner, is not insured, then that means that if any damages happen, you will almost certainly have to take legal action against them personally, in the slim hopes, of actually being able to recover your financial losses.
Example:
Ladder slips and hits your £20 thousand pound car, and the estimated repairs come in at a conservative thousand pounds. Without insurance, you have to hope that they have that kind of money lying around. So, it is kind of important, even if it is not a legal requirement (yet).
Why should we choose DT Cleaning Services?
There are many reputable cleaning businesses within the trade, so although we say why choose us, I suppose it's more important that the customer (that's YOU) chooses the company or business that works for you. Our advice therefore is quite simple:
Check are they insured
Choose a company that has all the necessary legal requirements. In our case we are fully insured for Public & Employers Liability.
How much do you know about them?
Look for how they present themselves. For example, do they have leaflets, cards, letterheads with contact numbers and names? Or do they give you a scrap piece of paper with just a mobile number scribbled on it.
Are they actually doing the job properly?
It surprises us just how many people seem to think that just because they pay less money, that this means the job is done right. I've lost track of the amount of times when I have looked at someones windows who say they have a window cleaner, and still the plastic frames are dirty, and it is pretty evident that whatever they think they may be saving in pound notes, they would be better off not even paying what they do now.
